Evan Johnson – San Diego Personal Trainer

Evan Johnson - San Diego Personal Trainer powering up the hilss
Evan Johnson, also known as “The Professor”, is a former college athlete with a Masters Degree in Exercise Science from the University of Connecticut and a recent addition to the Coastal Sports and Wellness’ San Diego personal training team.
Evan has been involved in fitness and personal training for 12 years since his first day of cross country practice as a pudgy, slow, high school freshman. His senior year in high school, by then a three season athlete (cross country, wrestling, and tennis), Evan knew that he wanted to continue with athletics through college. He was able to walk onto the George Washington University crew team where he became a 1 year novice, and 3 year varsity athlete, taking home the silver medal at the International Rowing Association’s championships his senior year.
After working as a personal trainer upon his graduation from college, Evan found that he wanted to better understand the body’s reaction and adaptation to exercise. He then enrolled in the challenging Masters degree program in Kinesiology at the University of Connecticut.
The research-based program has given Evan the understanding and more appreciation for what happens to the body during exercise. While pursuing his degree Evan completed the Florida Ironman 2007 (finishing in an impressive 11:40) and he continues to compete in sprint to Ironman distance triathlons.
Evan is currently in charge of our Triathlon Boot Camp classes – a specially-designed fitness boot camp for endurance athletes that has already produced fantastic results for his personal training clients in their latest triathlons and road running races in San Diego.
Evan’s love of teaching and personal training has also been facilitated by the opportunity to lecture to undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Connecticut on topics such as; theories of exercise fatigue, proper hydration, exercise routines for graduate students, and exercise and fitness training in extreme environments.
